Contributory parent visa processing

Despite paying large sums of money to apply for a Contributory Parent visa (approximately $47,000 per applicant plus a $10,000 bond), applicants are having to wait significant periods of time before the visa is granted.

Currently offshore Contributory Parent visa applications are taking approximately two years before they are allocated for final processing. The onshore permanent applications are currently being processed quicker with it taking around nine months for allocation for final processing. Applications for the temporary Contributory Parent visa are being processed the fastest, in around seven months for allocations.

Applicants need to be aware of the risk that a parent’s health could deteriorate during this processing period which would then lead to them failing the health test. However for those who want to bring their parents to Australia this is usually the only practical option given the 30+ years for processing of a standard parent visa application.
