The Department of Immigration and the ATO are now sharing information about visa holders and their migration agents. The ATO will obtain the following information for the 2017/18 financial year (and the following two years):

  • Address and contact history for visa applicants and sponsors

  • All visa grants and visa grant status by point in time

  • Migration agents (visa application preparer who assisted or facilitated the processing of the visa) including the address and contact history of the agent

  • All international travel movements undertaken by visa holders (arrivals and departures)

  • Sponsor and education provider details

  • Visa subclass name

It is estimated that records of 20 million individuals will be obtained over the course of the three year period in order to identify non-compliance with taxation and superannuation laws.
