Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs

August 30, 2018

David Coleman MP has been appointed as Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs.  This removes immigration policy from the responsibilities of the Home Affairs Minister, Peter Dutton.

In his maiden speech Mr Coleman stated:

“Our laws and processes need to be transparent. Everyone must play by the same rules. Complex regulations which favour the well-advised should be avoided… You don't expect the government to solve all your problems, but you do expect it not to create new ones.”

How these principles will be applied to immigration legislation and policy remains to be seen.
