Skills lists - Traffic light bulletin

The Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business has issued a Skilled Migration Lists Review: Traffic Light Bulletin Consultation document. It is inviting submission on changes to the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and Regional Occupation List (ROL).

Occupations currently red lighted for removal include hairdresser, career counsellor, vehicle trimmer, business machine mechanic, animal attendants and trainers nec, gardener (general), wood machinist, massage therapist, community worker, diving instructor (open water) and gymnastics coach or instructor. The following occupations are green lighted for addition to the STSOL: corporate treasurer, aged or disabled carer, nursing support worker and personal care assistant.

A number of other occupations have been marked for changes between lists or for new salary caveats. Please see https://docs.employment.gov.au/documents/skilled-migration-lists-review-traffic-light-bulletin-consultation-december-2019-february for full details.

The Traffic Light Bulletin is not final and the views of relevant stakeholders are being sought. Employers within occupations which are likely to be affected may wish to make submissions. Submissions will be accepted until 12 February 2020 and can be made here: https://employment.govcms.gov.au/consultation-skilled-migration-occupation-lists

Employers may also wish to contact their industry associations to bring this to their attention so that appropriate industry submissions can be made.
